THE STORY OF THE STREAM
An End-of-Life Journey Video

“It is important that we devise innovative ways of taking the message of palliative care to the general community. Community education through performing arts, music and dance is a language understood by all.” —Dr. Ambika Rajvanshi, CEO, CanSupport-India

The Stream is a transformation story of end-of-life journey, created by Zuleikha, international Storydancer, educator and founder/director of The Storydancer Project, a humanitarian non-profit organization headquartered in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The video performance was created in partnership with CanSupport-Delhi, India’s largest free home-based palliative care program.

Inspired by an ancient transformational story, The Stream is a video/film creation by Zuleikha with storydance, spoken word, and original music—a journey that moves within a visual landscape. Watch video excerpt below.

Dr. Ambika Rajvanshi discusses the role of The Storydancer Project and Zuleikha in partnership with CanSupport India and the Relaxation Therapeutic Health Exercise Program (RTHEP) developed by Zuleikha for palliative care patients and their families. This name of this program has now been changed to TAKE A MINUTE® for Palliative Care and is the subject of a research study by Princeton University at CanSupport with the Palliative Home Care Teams.

The “Free Paper Oral Presentation” prize was awarded to Zuleikha based upon the presentation of her research project Relaxation Therapeutic Health Exercise Program (RTHEP©). in an ongoing partnership with the Delhi organization CanSupport and her non-profit organization The Storydancer Project (TSP). RTHEP©, created and developed by Zuleikha/TSP, is an initiative that arose from the needs of cancer patients and their families looked after by the home-based palliative care teams of CanSupport. RTHEP© is now called TAKE A MINUTE® For Palliative Care, and is being implemented today by a group of CanSupport Home Care Team counselors trained by Zuleikha/TSP. The Home Care Teams, each comprised of a doctor, nurse and counselor, offer palliative care to patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers in all sectors of Delhi and the National Capital Region. Since the services are aimed at the most needy and underserved, they are provided free of charge.

Special thanks to Dr. Ambika Rajvanshi, Chief Executive Officer of CanSupport, for her help and direction with putting the presentation together, to CanSupport for their teamwork and support, and to the staff of TSP for their collaboration, commitment and ongoing creative work.

As a performer, educator and award-winning pioneer, Zuleikha’s commitment to helping others feel better leads her to work with many different people in a wide variety of circumstances.
